First impression

Established in 1895, it’s in California wine country’s Calistoga region, known for its red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. A picturesque setting, small-batch wines, and awards aplenty—what’s not to like? Larkmead Vineyards is a picturesque spot, and the more-than-decent wine is an added bonus. The vineyard is relaxed and easily accessible.

Universally beloved, my mother Polly Solari left a legacy of graciousness and hospitality to all who came to her door. We always aspire to emulate that legacy at Larkmead today.

History lesson

The historic Larkmead estate is one of the oldest family-owned establishments in Napa Valley. Originally founded in 1895, Larkmead is now under the stewardship of proprietors Cam and Kate Solari Baker.

Kate and I wanted to recapture the historic place Larkmead Vineyards has held in the Napa Valley and to make wines for a new generation that truly reflects the stature, personality, and history of this world class site.
— Cam Baker, Proprietor

Winemaker Dan Petroski captures the nuance and complexity of this site by vinifying small lots according to clonal selection and soil type.

The vibe

The energy level at the vineyard is fittingly mellow. It’s reservation-only so book an appointment, come here on a weekday and you might virtually have the place to yourself to enjoy. On weekends, things might be a little more hopping, with couples and intimate groups of friends, but it's never overcrowded. Swing by for an afternoon wine tasting or tour; settle in on the patio for views of the vines and the rolling hills; or stroll through the pollinator garden surrounding the winery—it benefits bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and the ecosystem of the entire estate.
